Being Witty is no Funny Business

By William Wentworth

No longer are funny people taken for granted. Today, comedians are among the highest earning professionals in the entertainment industry. In movies, there is a genre specially reserved for funny movies and there are awards dedicated to honoring the funniest actors. In daily life, more women are being ensnared by people who bring laughter into their lives. Some men have learned the hard way and have had to see their women snatched away from them by witty individuals.

Although this is not a noble way to use your funny side, it goes to show why more people are wishing they could be witty whenever they need to be. Wouldn't it be nice to always come up with something funny to make people laugh so hard that they fall down? You might say that you were not born funny, but most people are not. It mostly depends on the person and the environment in which you live. Sometimes it also depends on the experiences that you have had in life.

If you were to ask these comedians how they do it, the most likely answer would be that they have no idea. It just comes. But a careful study of their habits will reveal much more than meets the eye. For one, you might notice that these people try to be funny even when the situation does not call for it. This means that they are consistent in trying to be funny. Practice makes perfect and it is true in this case. If you always strive to be funny, you most probably will be. Biologically, your brain is wired to be good at what is repeated. People will also associate you with witty replies and ideas if you keep coming up with them, and they will always expect you to have them. You will therefore endeavor not to disappoint them.

Secondly, try to have interest to everything around you. You never know when an idea might strike. Most funny ideas come from real life experiences of the comedian or of other people. The experience might have been good or bad but you can turn it into a laughing matter by the way you say it. You can use funny examples from what you have seen or experienced as you are making conversation.

Finally, be socially savvy. You should do your research and know what people are interested in at that particular time. Listen to conversations between people and think of how to make it funny. Both professional and non-professionals can use many of these tactics. Many men have been known to land a date by using witty speech and actions. Some people believe that the way to a girl's heart is through her funny bone. Make a girl laugh, and she will not care if you have money or not.
