Humour and its possibilities

Laughter and humor are universal. Laughter is a human characteristic. Humour may be defined as that quality of action, speech or writing, which excites amusement, wit and laughter. There may be a lot of experiences that may induce laughter and this is called humor. This may be a surprise action or may be something unusual or out of reason.
There is humor in every one s life. It is independent of age, although different types of humor may appeal to different types of people. For example A cartoon like Tom and Jerry or Mickey Mouse, though their appeal is universal, will impress small kids where as another kind of humor like those of Archie's may influence the teens more. However humor is equally enjoyed by people of all sections of the society, irrespective of age, sex or ethnicity.

Humour is actually a complex subject, while cultures develop, language changes and people revise their styles of wit. Humour has social and cultural contexts. It is not always so easy to determine which ingredient makes one laugh. Children and adults do not always appreciate the same humour. Accepting and appreciating humour is also a personal experience and differs from individual to individual. Humour is perceived and accepted within an individual's literary background and personal system of values.
