Consider A Will?

By Rick Hart

Did you ever wonder what would happen to your the people you care about if you died all of a sudden. I know that's not a very fun thing to consider. However it can happen every day.

What would your folks do? Does your insurance cover your basic costs going forward? Do you even have insurance? How about your funeral?

These are some tricky questions.

Here's some things to think about.

- What happens to the bills that are only in your name.
- Who will you pay for the funeral?
- What about all of your online accounts? Will your other half be well placed to get into them or will they be lost forever?
- What about your private property like musical equipment, fishing equipment, tools, boats?
- What about the beneficiaries on your insurance policies? Are they recent?

Preparing for the surprising isn't fun. But think how your spouse or husband will feel when they are left with sorting all this stuff out. Do we really want to leave them with that?
If you are young, or maybe in your fourtys and fiftys, the last thing on your mind is perhaps planning for your death. Who would like to think about that?

Have you got a will? Possibly not?

Do you have "end of life" details sorted like, who gets your organs, or are you wanting doctors to resuscitate you if you haven't got any hope for living a unexceptional life any longer. Do you want to be on life-support and in a vegetative state for the remainder of your life - such as it is?

These are all questions that your partner and family might be left with if you don't plan in advance.

Time To Do Some Estate Planning

When you die without a will you are what is known as intestate. That means the courts will decide what happens to all of your stuff. Not your wife. Not your family. The courts!

Is that what you want to occur?

Do you even understand what you wish to occur?

And what about your bills and liabilities? They have still got to be paid. Are you prepared for that? Is your better half or man?

Estate planning is about making these end of life decisions... So somebody else does not have to. It all starts with a will?

What's A Will?

A will is a legal document that details what occurs after you die. Who gets your money, your property, and your stuff.

A will makes it clear, and legal, as to what you want to happen. After you die you have no say in the problem. A will is the only way to clarify what you really need to happen at the unanticipated situation of your death. It's the only control you will have over what takes place when you die.

And you may also create the will yourself without assistance from a solicitor. But I do not recommend it. Each state has specific estate and probate laws. A will must be drawn up properly to be in effect after you die. Remember you will not be here to defend it.

A good estate planning attorney can be very helpful in ensuring everything is sorted when you die. Remember. This
