Long-term Benefits of Vitamin C to the Human Body

By Tyler Brooks

Over the years, vitamin C has been considered a vital part of a healthy diet. The benefits of which range from an increasingly effective immune system to the prevention of heart issues which can appear with the advancement of age. Vitamin C is a very vital vitamin to our daily consumption. And since the body has no way of generating it itself, we need to make sure we are regularly digesting it.
After three months, the groups were reversed and the results, studies. What was discovered was that the daytime systolic blood pressure fell by 2 mm Hg, and the drop was even higher for those who had preexisting high blood pressure. Not only was blood pressure lowered through out both groups, but women also experienced an increase in HDL levels (high-density lipoprotein).

The results of which include blood clots which interfere with blood flow. But by adding higher doses of vitamin C to their diet, those suffering from arterial stiffness may greatly reduce their risk of heart disease and even stroke. In one study, adult males who introduced a single high dose of 2,000 milligrams of vitamin C to their system saw a 10% improvement in arterial stiffness. This was found only 6 hours after taking this high dose of vitamin C.

What makes this study so remarkable is that the subjects were in good health. This may mean that adults who suffer from arterial stiffness could experience an even better improvement. What is the recommended dosage of vitamin C? The dosage needed to obtain these benefits may seem high, and therefor difficult to maintain. To properly receive the doses subjects in theses studies found beneficial, adults would need to include 9 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

One of the most prevalent changes in adults during these studies was the decrease in monocyte (white blood cell) adhesion, which marks the early stages of atherosclerosis. By increasing the intake of vitamin C, adults who had low levels of vitamin C lowered their adhesion rate by 37%. This further proves that including vitamin C in any diet can be a preventative life choice. By lowering the adhesion rate of monocytes adults may experience a lower rate of plaque buildup.
