Training to become an ultrasound technician could be done thru a formalised education programme or thru army training. The most common training is an associate's degree program, although there are BSc and 1-year certificate programs available. The 1st year of training is very rigorous with minimum of 17 credits. These include pathology, basic elements of instrumentation, basic sectional anatomy (which is also used in performing MRIs), obstetrics and gynecology and physics. The Second year is concentrated on learning echo cardiology, vascular anatomy and performing exact scans. The final semester prepares students to work as a ultrasound technician.

One of the requirements of becoming UT is getting certification of the training programme that you have completed. Most companies want to hire applicants who are registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. To be registered with the American Registry, students need to pass theory and practical portion of the test.

Students trying for certification have to have the basic educational requirement, clinical ultrasound/vascular experience and other related documents. Although the certification criteria look a bit stiff, but upon certification UTs will enjoy a gratifying career in the medical sector. The requirements set for UT certification will definitely assist students to have a very rewarding and gratifying career. Following this occupation is definitely an attractive option for all of those who are hunting for a job in health-care sector. Those that satisfy the requirements will command respectable wages and also have numerous choices for specialization, sophisticated degrees and certification- all of which push the career advancements prospects of individuals.
