Sheffield's claims to fame

Sheffield, the city of Steel, has been the birth place and home town of many famous people throughout history, both past and present.

The most well known of Sheffield's claims to fame is probably Michael Palin. Michael Edward Palin, CBE, PRGS is a British comedy writer and actor best known for his work on Monty Python with John Cleese and the gang. He also in recent years created a series of travel documentaries for which he has also gained worldwide recognition.
Many people will have heard of former professional boxer turned boxing trainer Brendan Ingle. While living in Wincobank, Sheffield, Brendan was approached and asked to help do something about the unruly youths in the area. He opened his boxing gym St Thomas' Boys & Girls Club, and has never looked back. He has trained such greats as Prince Naseem, Clinton Woods and is current trainer for Junior Witter, Kell Brooks and Richard Towers. Over his time as a boxing trainer he has trained 3 world champions, 6 European champions, 15 British champions and 6 Commonwealth champions, making him one of the most successful boxing trainers in the history of the sport.

Shaun Mark Bean, otherwise known as Sean Bean, is an actor of all mediums, film, TV and stage. The Sheffield born actor is best known for the role of Borimir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. You may also know him from such roles as Alec Trevelyan in the James Bond classic Golden Eye and Ian Howe in National Treasure. He has also made a more recent appearance in the HBO television series Game of Thrones as Eddard Starkin. Bean has also been known to turn his hand to voiceovers on popular computer games such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and television advertisements most recently for the O2 mobile netwo

Alexander David Turner, better known as Alex Turner is the front man and guitarist of one of the most recent success stories in the music world to come out of the steel city, the Arctic Monkeys. Alex was born in the High Green in Sheffield, and was his band was snapped up in 2005 by Domino Records. Their debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am Not' turned out to be the fastest selling debut album in the history of music, and they went on to conquer the US charts as well. He is also known for his work on a side-project called The Last Shadow Puppets and has attempted a solo career.
