When you come across the term Christmas, what exactly comes to your head? I guess most of us would want to think of food, gifts, family and perhaps anything that causes us to feel happy. Basically, that's what Christmas is really all about. It ought to remind us of all the great things that life gives. No matter how big or small our income or savings may be, Christmas should be spent with joy and happiness. It does not quite matter how little or how much we are sharing so long as we're sharing it whole heartedly. This is the real meaning of Christmas.
However, more than the expensive presents, personalized Christmas cards, delicious food or the relatively endless merrymaking, I do think that we must not fail to remember the reason why we celebrate Christmas.
Back when I was a lot younger, my mom and dad used to read me stories regarding Jesus Christ. I remember that the story of his birth or what most of us may know as the nativity was my favorite. I believe that it was the most amazing story about Jesus Christ before he was nailed in the cross. That is mainly because it really feels so humbling to learn that a person as exceptional as him would be born with utmost simplicity. Maybe, that time, it was even a very inexpensive way to be born.
Nowadays, pregnant women would carefully select the hospital they are going to give birth and families would have to save lots of money for this particular occasion. Prior to the birth, expectant mothers will need to shop for a lot of things for the unborn baby and we now have the equipment which allows us to take a peek of how our unborn babies look like. I guess having a baby today has gotten too expensive.
During Jesus' period, he was delivered inside a manger. A manger is actually an animal shelter. Thus essentially, when Mary was having labor pains, she had been with the farm animals. And if ever baby Jesus could see, he might have first seen farm animals apart from his mother and father. There used to be no nurses and no doctors to assist them.
I just wish that whenever we celebrate Christmas or want to send out some business Christmas cards, we would always think of the humbleness that God has shown us. And as much as we are able to, we must always keep ourselves humble and extend this humility to other people. I wish that it doesn't just occur on the 25th of December but the whole year round. By doing this, we might have not been fortunate to assist Jesus at the time of his delivery but we will surely have lived up to the ideals and lessons that He has shown us.
