When I was just a child, I truly loved Christmas. Aside from my birthday, Christmas was pretty much so wonderful to celebrate. One of the many explanations why it is a very terrific celebration for all of us kids is because we could be pretty self-centered particularly when it involves asking Santa Claus the gift that we desire to have for Christmas. It is the only occasion in the entire year when we do not really have an understanding of what we're celebrating yet we know that we're extremely happy.
For most young children, the very first ones on the list are probably toys. Many years ago, it was quite easier for parents to find toys for children basically because you could purchase them in the toy section in shopping centers. It was in fact even a little predictable. It could be a plastic gun, a toy doll, a robot, a toy car, and so on. However, as several years went by, the types of toys that kids wished for has become somewhat complicated to obtain, not to mention, far more expensive. Kids nowadays enjoy mobile phones, game consoles and other types of high tech devices. I just remember reading an article in a certain social media site which says blackberries and apples used to be just fruits to nibble on.
Aside from the differences when it comes to the wishes that today's children have for the Yuletide season, we also change the things that we desire as we grow older. Perhaps from asking Santa Claus for a very nice toy for Christmas, we might end up wanting or receiving far more adult things. More sophisticated and costly items like sports gear or cars would make grown ups appreciate Christmas more.
When I became an adult, almost every Christmas, my mailbox would be loaded with business Christmas cards which basically says the usual crap. I used to party like there's no future or spend mindlessly for Christmas. Occasionally, my best friend or my mother would give me personalised Christmas cards having warm messages which are always very emotional. Nevertheless, each time I look back at the time when I received inexpensive toy guns from my mom and dad, it made me truly feel like it was a lot more exhilarating.
At times, this makes me wonder if other adults feel much the same way. I am not just certain if our taste, as we become adults, alters or it is the society in general that changed over the years. It also tends to make me speculate what would be the things that I'd like for Christmas as I come to be an old man. Would it still be sophisticated just like the kinds that grownups want? Or would it be simpler things like the toys that kids appreciate? Or maybe, once I get truly old, I might want more difficult things which you can't actually buy like happiness or long life.
