Healthcare Administration's Code of Ethics: Part 1

By Franklin Skribbit

When you are interested in becoming a nurse, you should understand the basics about the career. Getting to know the career may help you decide if the nursing field is where you want to be and if the nursing field is conducive with the lifestyle that you want to have.

As a healthcare administrator, you will be expected to be honest, moral and patient oriented. As you read through the first two expectations, consider carefully if you can commit yourself to live this lifestyle. If you can or want to, then this could be just the field for you. The first expectation is that you will always hold the welfare of your patients above everything else.

Look into potential work places in your area to figure out what the average salary for an RN in these places is. As you are looking into these salaries, you should also be sure that you check the average salaries throughout the states that you are interested in working.

Others though might want something different. The field is extremely diverse and you can be trained to do the basic medical care for most offices, relieving the burden off of doctors. Traditional hospital nursing isn't the only field you can specialize in. Nearly every type of medical care needs a nurse.

Second, you should look into the work environment that you will be signing up for. There are a lot of people that think working in a hospital is the only option that they will have when they have become an RN officially.

But your job in healthcare administration will require you to step outside your comfort zone if it's in the best interest of your patients. The second expectation as a healthcare administrator is that you maintain the highest standards of professional competence.

Third, while you are looking into the way that you will be working and being paid you should investigate the options for the RNs that are just starting to work. It is important that you know how you are going to be able to progress and how easy it is to actually progress.

You, on the other hand, recognize that you do not know everything and study hard to make sure you're always improving. The medical world is in a constant state of flux.

Finally, it is important to look into the different specialties that exist. There are many different types of nursing specialties that you can choose and often times when you have an RN you are able to specialize in something and get paid more.

Now, this only explored a nursing career in a doctor's office. Every medical care facility will offer different benefits, pay scales and opportunities.

A nursing job may be exactly what you need in a career. Take time to develop your opinion of nursing and ensure that it is the career you want to pursue.
