It is true that RC airplanes are commonly seen being flown in open parks and fields outdoors or in the local community in front and back yards, but a close cousin to RC airplanes is identified in the fantastically affordable and fun RC helicopters currently being sold. RC toys in general are amazingly entertaining, but an RC helicopter in particular seemingly adds a new dimension to the RC toy using experience! There is just nothing like mastering an RC helicopter and successfully flying it for hours on end.
Unlike other RC pursuits, RC helicopter is one that requires the most patience. It is unlikely that a beginner will pick up flying a heli the very first time they pick up the controller. Success and mastery will come over time as sessions by sessions a beginner pilot learns to control the craft properly. Remember, just like everything else, practice makes perfect!
To start things out, a novice flier needs to be prepared financially. Although the once extremely heavy price tag have become much more affordable in recent years, it should be noted that some fund should be set aside for repairs. Crash is inevitable when flying any type of RC aircraft and learners should be prepared accordingly. Being financially prepared will alleviate a lot of anxieties of having to think about the cost of repairs.
One more factor to remember is that this hobby is quite difficult, in fact some claim the most difficult of all RC pursuits. If you are not scared to "stick with it" and learn how to fly properly, you are already almost there. What most veteran pilots will guarantee, however, is that your perseverance will surely pay off in the end and you will reap the reward in form of endless enjoyment.
Once you are ready to make the first purchase, it should be noted that most kits, though mostly assembled, will need some more assembling. An instruction manual will be provided, but don't expect it to be easy to follow. Moreover, a slight misconfiguration might mess up the model aerodynamically and it may not lift off at all. Because of this, it may be a good idea to get a to know some local hobby shops where you can make frequent trips to ask for assembly instructions and advices.
Lastly, it is prudent to never forget about safety. When flying any RC aircraft, it is most important to always protect your self as well as others. With blades spinning at crazy speed it can be very dangerous and you should always treat your model with respect.
