YAMAHA IM8-32: More Space and Time For You

By Robert Gill

For use in small to medium sized venues and productions, the IM8 with three models available - the -24, -32, and the -40 mono channels in this series is sure to have needs of most operators satisfied.

The mono channels are the only aspect that varies for the whole series so everyone can be assured that whatever features Yamaha promised for its IM8 series it does show in the IM8-32.

At a size of 570 x 80 x 290, the IM8-40 is just less of a rulers length shorter than the -24. With its large familiar layout, operators will have an easy experience going through this console.
Aside from the 32 mono channels, the console also includes the IM8 standard eight groups, four stereo channels, eight auxiliary buses, the four-strip matrix, and mono out buses. Yamahas exclusive single-knob compressor is also here to save the user all the trouble of maintaining a tad number of controls.

There is also built-in microphone preamps that was inherited from the other Yamaha models. An equalizer that also responds well to even just a little adjustments.

100mm long travel faders and metering on all ins and outs are in the master section while LED meters are also in the mixer to provide the user with the ease of monitoring the stereo output levels, the AFL, and the PFL points. The IM8 also offers USB connectivity that can be used both for recording and playback.

The IM8 series is just one of the many analogue mixers Yamaha has come up with specifically for smaller venues. This console is actually perfect for choirs or school productions especially if the -24 could not accommodate the number of singers.

The convenience of this model over the IM8-24 apart from the obvious is, it comes from the fact that with the -32, the operator can leave some channels
