The Atlanta area offers visitors a pleasant range of attractions and activities. Not surprisingly the most interesting locations, piquing the interest of both grownups and children, are Atlanta's highest rated area zoos and aquariums, boasting several kinds of wildlife from all over the world. There are several Atlanta zoos that are well deserving of visiting.
Zoo Atlanta
Over 1,000 animals including 1 or 2 endangered wildlife on the very edge of extinction are present at this zoo. Birds, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and even carnivorous plants, can be admired in this 40 acre zoo member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Boasting more than 220 species, the Zoo in Atlanta is one of the only four zoos in the US to house giant pandas. This zoo also has the largest collection of western lowland gorillas and orangutans. This zoo is open daily 363 days a year and closed for Xmas Day and Thanksgiving Day.
Georgia Aquarium
Wonder and heaps of excitement around each corner await visitors fervent to investigate the interesting sea sector of this Atlanta aquarium. Home to top class events, interactive displays and more than 10 million gallons of fresh and marine water, the Georgia Aquarium offers an intriguing glimpse of marine life that is sure to leave long lasting memories. Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari
Visitors looking for a unique experience may enjoy a wild animal safari in Pine Mountain, roughly an hour away from Atlanta. Among the zoos in Atlanta visitors here can ride with their own automobile or they can sit back and enjoy a tour on one of the "Zebra Vans". Different habitats and its local animals will be featured among the plains, swamps, deserts, mountains and forests. The safari also boasts some endangered animals including Siberian Tigers, Water Buffalos and Bactrian Camels. The park's hours have a tendency to vary seasonally, so it is wise to test before booking.
Noah's Ark
A variation on a Zoo in Atlanta, Noah's Ark is worth discussing because it's got a cause. While not particularly a zoo in the real sense of the word, there may be more than 1,000 animals at this animal rehab center for abused, injured and orphaned animals. The admission is free and there are self-guided tours offering visitors the opportunity to watch foreign animals in a natural habitat. The animal habitat is open everyday except Sundays, Mondays and major vacations.
