Most people are very concerned about their safety when at their residence. Unfortunately, it is no longer enough to ensure that one has a house in a good neighborhood. Home security solutions, including installing burglar alarms can monitor homes to ensure one has a warning of intruders.
Most burglar alarms have two states in which they may be set. If the system is disarmed, it is turned off and will do nothing. When the system is armed, it is operating. Most commonly, the system is armed or disarmed by entering a personal code on the unit's keypad. Most give the occupant up to two minutes to disarm the system after opening the door.
Systems have a trigger mechanism attached to the doors and the windows of the house. These mechanisms detect each time the door or window is opened. In businesses, it is common to have motion detectors or light beams. When someone is moving in a room and breaks the light beam, a warning is sounded. However, in homes these features are less useful as systems are often armed when occupants are present and moving about in the rooms.
Usually the systems are designed to alert a monitoring company that then contacts the police. The alert may be sent through phone, internet or in some other method. Most systems are designed to create a loud, continuous noise to alert the occupants of the building and scare off intruders. Less expensive models may only make the loud noise without alerting anyone on the outside.
Most systems are considered reliable. Some have a battery backup that allows them to continue providing protection in a power failure. While phone lines were once the primary way systems contacted the monitoring service, today, units may use the internet, cellular or other wireless technology.
Home security solutions can make homes safer. They can be configured to the occupant's needs. They sound an alert to keep you safe.
