Where can a bands find a good production companies that book local bands? Most concert production companies and concert clubs are very reliable and hardworking. There are also lots of these companies all over the country. Unfortunately, not everyone is honest and fair.
Look into their Better Business Bureau report. The BBB will rate a business on a sliding scale from an F to an A+. Any club that has an A plus rating is doing a fine job. The BBB is really hard on businesses and it is especially hard for a promoter or concert club to have a good rating with them.
Businesses are rated by the BBB according to the number of complaints they get and how they resolve those complaints. Most clubs and promoters deal with thousands upon thousand of customers each year, making it very difficult to get a good rating from the Better Business Bureau. So any club with a good rating must clearly be a superior organization.
There is a production company based out of Ohio called Gorilla Music that has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Again this is an amazing feat considering the number of customers they work with on a yearly basis. They estimate that they service over one hundred thousand customers each year and have only had three BBB Complaints in the last seven years. Anther similar company called Afton Entertainment doesn't have a good of a score as Gorilla Music does, but they work with hundreds of concert clubs all over the country. This is also a good indication that they are a good company. The music business is a small industry and things get around fast. If Afton was an unethical company it wouldn't be possible for them to work with so many venues.
