Stories Of Miracles As Seen In The Bible

By Marissa Velazquez

Miracles are surprising events that people often pray for because of the positive effects they bring. An HIV patient for instance prays that one day, the virus will disappear from his blood system. These events do not agree with scientific theories so they are linked to God's intervention in the lives of men. Stories of miracles abound in the Bible where different kinds of individuals were both partakers and beneficiaries of God's divine help.

Among the most astonishing ones is the miracle recorded in Mark 5:25-34. This was the healing of a woman with the issue of blood which had lasted for 12 years. This woman had gone through several medications but all to no avail. Finally, she saw Jesus passing in the crowd and determined to touch the hem of His garment.
Another interesting one is the healing of Blind Bartimeus. Bartimeus always begged along the street until one day he heard Jesus was passing by. Even though he had not met Jesus personally before then, he had heard so many things about Him. This prompted him to shout with a loud voice asking Jesus to have mercy on him. In the end, he received his sight for the first time since his birth.

The man called legion (many demons) had been abandoned by his people who thought there was no way he could regain consciousness. Although his relations had given up on him, Jesus did not forget this man who was located at the riverside. He went there specifically for him, to show him his love and care. Jesus expelled the demons from him and sent them to the pigs. The demons drove the pigs to the river where they got drowned.

Jesus walked on water. This is another miracle with great lesson. Jesus performed this miracle to let His disciples know that all things are possible once they believe in Him. Contrary to some views, this miracle was not performed to show off.

Another miracle is the feeding of five thousand men with few slices of bread and two fish. This happened after Jesus taught the crowd and felt the need to feed them before letting them go. There was nothing around except five loaves of bread and two fish which were found in the hands of a little boy in the crowd. Jesus used this to feed the multitude and there were 12 baskets remaining.

One of the greatest miracles in the Bible is the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus was sick for some time before his death. Even after his death, Jesus still delayed for four days before going to Bethany. When Jesus went, Lazarus had already been buried so

After praying, Lazarus came back to life and the people around became more astonished.

The Old Testament also has many stories of miracles. Some of them include the exit of the Israelites through the Red Sea, the creation of the world, destroying the walls of Jericho and the restoration of Naaman. All these stories are recorded to let everyone know that miracles are still possible today.
