Common Basketball Injuries

By James K Zane

Based on the Denver Nuggets Training Room, a sprained ankle is the most frequent problems for NBA players. And going through the present disabled players list, it begins to be more apparent. Ankle sprains are more widespread than any other particular sports injury, even more so if they are included with the soreness of the ankle joint.

As of May 2014, on the most recent injured list are five sprained ankles. Semih Erden (for the Cavaliers), Brook Lopez (for the Nets), Luke Ridnour (for the Timberwolves), Stephen Curry (for the Warriors), and Hassan Whiteside (for the Kings) are losing out on game time to sprained ankles.
Additionally, a number of athletes were on the bench attributable to general soreness, presumably with unhealed earlier injuries.

The most frequent sprained ankle, in the NBA and everyday life, is an inversion sprain. It is when the sole of the foot bends inward (toward the other foot) and hyper extends the ankle exterior ligament. Other sorts of sprains are the eversion sprain and the high ankle sprain. They are both more uncommon. An eversion sprain occurs when the sole of the foot bends out, or the ankle joint moves in while the sole of the foot rolls outward. A high ankle sprain is a sprain to the junction the spot that the two bones of the lower leg meet.

Sprains are typically stopped with the next three measures.

First, it's important that the basketball player fortify and train the muscle in and around the ankle joint. This includes sufficient loosening up and stretching before a game.

Second, the proper footwear is essential. Without proper athletic shoes, the feet are susceptible to more slipping and twisting.

Third, the ankle joint is bandaged using athletic tape prior to a game. The tape provides more support and feedback to permit the athlete to know if the joint is flexing too far.
