Improve Your Fitness and Don't Let Obstacles Stop You

By Jason Creep

Many people have a goal of improving their fitness level, but something always seems to get in the way. Excuses like having no time, physical limitations, and lack of motivation are easy to find when it comes to avoiding an exercise routine. The following are some ways to help you get past your limitations and obstacles to getting fit.

Some people have to deal with the weather as a serious obstacle to their fitness goals. In areas with severe winters, there may be days or even weeks, where you won't be able to exercise outside or even drive to the gym. By spring, you've either forgotten about or given up on your exercise program. A simple solution to this obstacle is to have exercises you can do at home. You may prefer exercising outside or at the gym but it's not always practical to go out so it's good to have a routine you can do at home. Your at home routine can include using weights, an exercise machine, or an exercise mat for calisthenics, yoga, or push-ups.
One perceived obstacle to fitness is age, as some people feel they can't start exercising at whatever age they are. Not that long ago, this would have seemed like a valid reason not to begin exercising, but not anymore, as doctors and researchers have found that people of any age can benefit from exercise. Experiments have been conducted on people in their sixties and beyond that prove it's possible to rebuild muscles and strength by lifting weights at any age. Some fitness exercises that are good for older people include exercises in water, walking and lifting light weights. In other words, age is no longer a barrier to exercising and reaching a higher level of fitness.

Many people quit when they don't see immediate results after starting out with unrealistic expectations. You have to understand that improving your health and level of fitness doesn't happen overnight. You may find that it will take longer than you'd like to reach your goal, whether that is to lose a certain amount of weight or to build muscle. Doing nothing won't get you to your goal but exercising will get you there eventually.

Try approaching your fitness program with a more relaxed attitude rather than expecting immediate, dramatic results. In order to see your desired results from any fitness program, you will need to have patience and discipline. Soon after beginning a fitness routine, many people start feeling better, although it may take time to reach their goals. It's worth it to always do your best no matter how long it takes because the results will be better. As you start your own exercise bike routine, use these tips to help you to stick with it.
