Military Workout Lessons

By Amado Zermeno

1. Workout a lot and keep very fit and healthy.

To a Marine, exercising regularly may mean that you have to exercise every morning a 6AM. However, for the rest of the world that doesn't have to train for combat, exercising regularly simply means that you need to make exercise a top priority in your life. Ideally, you want to exercise 3 - 5 times per week.

The point is that when you exercise consistently, there is no way that you can not achieve the results you are looking for. If you are the type that exercises only a few days in January each year and then stops once the excitement of your New Year's resolutions have worn off, you will never experience fitness at it's best. Consistency throughout the year is the key to success.

2. Don't confuse yourself
Health and fitness is way too easy for confusion. Yet people continue to be confused because of the overload of information on the market. With so many diets, programs, strategies and advice from "experts," it's no wonder that people are so damn confused. How many times have you seen people in the gym trying to do some crazy movement hoping to build muscles that they've never heard of? Some peoples' workouts are so confusing, there is no way they can make it last for the long term.

Keep your workout and nutritional strategies simple if you expect to have real results. There is no need for confusing, "secret" strategies that will supposedly give you the best results of your life. There is no substitute for good old fashioned hard work.

3. Use common sense

I have learned over the years that most people know way more than they act like they do. Most everyone knows that in order to get in shape you have to exercise and eat right. So why doesn't everyone just do this? I don't know and I'm certainly not going to try and figure it out but I will say that if people would just use more common sense instead of searching so hard for the "magic pill," they would see much better results.

4. Drink plenty of water

The Marine Corps will make sure you get enough water and will sometimes force you to drink even if you aren't thirsty. They know that the majority of people are dehydrated and their bodies cannot function at it's highest levels without it. However, most people are filling themselves with sodas, fruit drinks and other bad stuff that just won't cut it. Water is free, easily accessible and absolutely necessary. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water each and every day whether you a

It's amazing to watch the Marine Corps take a group full of unhealthy and out of shape recruits and turn them into physically fit Marines capable of fighting for our country. This is all accomplished through hard work and consistency. I have discovered over the years that these simple strategies provide a solid foundation when helping people achieve their fitness goals.

I'm proud that I was a Marine and even more proud that I have been able to take the lessons I've learned to help others in their quest for health and wellness.
