Obstacles to Better Fitness and How You can get Past Them

By Larry Guiseler

Many people have a goal of improving their fitness level, but something always seems to get in the way. It can be really easy to find an excuse to not exercise like not having the time or the motivation. Here are some ideas to help get beyond typical obstacles to getting fit. One common excuse for not exercising is a lack of time.

It can be hard to find time to go to the gym or go for a jog between work and family responsibilities. If you look at your schedule, though, you may find that you aren't making the most of your time. But one study shows that on average, people in the U.S. watch five hours of television every day. Think of how much time for fitness related activities such people would have if they even cut that number in half. Computer games, trivial phone calls, and text messaging are other time wasters. You can make more time to exercise by cutting back on unproductive activities.
Incorporating your workout into your daily life is a good way to find more time for exercise. Try using your car less to get to work and instead run or ride a bike as a means for incorporating more exercise into your life. If you work in an office, you can take a power walk during your lunch hour. Your pet will love the extra exercise your giving him when you take him for a jog, pets are great exercise buddies. Make an effort to take the stairs up to your office instead of always depending on the elevator to get you to work. The idea here is to gain as much benefit from the activities you are already doing. Doing it this way helps you overcome the time hurdle.

Being tired and have low energy levels can be a symptom of poor fitness but they can also be a reason to not exercise. People will feel tired all the time when they don't get enough sleep, which is becoming more common. Maintaining physical activity can be difficult or even dangerous when you're sleep deprived, making it hard to feel like exercising. You can get some help with insomnia by making changes to your diet and routine but if you have serious issues with it, you should let your doctor know. Turning off the TV or computer earlier, as well as avoiding stimulants in the evenings, can make it easier to fall asleep.

All you really need to do is set your mind to it in order to get around any obstacles. You will prevail if you work hard to find the time you need for hit activity like doing workouts using a home exercise bike machine that is going to help with your fitness goals.
