Pool Covers

By Andy Randy

Among all the things you need for your swimming pool, having a cover is essential. Whether you have an in ground pool or an above ground pool, you need to have a cover. It may seem like a bit of a hassle, but it's necessary for many reasons.

Water evaporates from pools, even indoor pools, depending on the various things such as the temperature and weather conditions. When water evaporates from the pool, a lot of energy is wasted, so having a pool cover will reduce the amount of water that's evaporated, and will saved quite a bit of energy on heating the pool.
Aside from the environmental reasons of having a pool cover, it also makes sense to have a pool cover when you are outside as leaves and bits and pieces of nature inevitably find their way into your pool, not to mention the dirt and grime. Cleaning a pool is hard enough to do without added sand, stones, and dirt falling in from the local foliage. In the UK it is likely that we keep our outdoor pools filled and ready to use at a moment's notice for when we may just get the chance, so it makes sense that they be covered and protected for the rest of the season!

Plastic is the main material used to cover a pool. Some people simply drape over a giant plastic tarp over the top. However it is better to have a cover that is especially made for a pool. This way it will not tear so easily and will be the right weight and texture to do what it needs to do. You can get pool covers that are specially designed to keep the heat in, they are often called bubble covers or solar covers. They work very well, and the clear ones keep even more heat in than the opaque variety.

Depending on how often you will be putting the cover on and off, you can decide to get a cover that you simply put on yourself and take off and fold up and store safely, or you can have an automatic roller that rolls the cove
