Motivation and the physical aspect of any fitness program are the areas of concern for women. Overcoming the inertia of doing nothing to actually begin a fitness routine is the perhaps the hardest part. It takes a high level of motivation to take charge of your health and to do something. Once started though, you know that staying motivated presents a new set of challenges. The following strategies are effective ways to maintain your fitness motivation.
If you find yourself increasingly challenged to maintain your forward momentum, then you may want to consider a different approach. Make a deal with yourself involving performance and rewards. Positive reinforcement is another way of looking at it. An example could be treating yourself to a healthy, but new, kind of reward if you complete your entire workout routine as planned. This treat could be stopping by a healthy sports drink bar for something tasty. If you reach your workout goal, you could indulge in a nice hot bubble bath that evening. Be creative with your rewards and stick with them for meeting performance goals.

The areas of health, fitness, and working out are all highly personal to each of us. So our challenges to stay motivated and to keep moving forward will be personal, too. What that means is each of us needs to resolve the issue in our own way and on our own terms. It makes sense that the solution to a personal problem be personal as well. Look into joining a club if you're more of a social fitness enthusiast. You may find it helpful to find a safe place where you can be around others. Then you can choose the exercise that appeals the most to you. Being around others while not actually socializing with them will help satisfy something in you.

Sports psychologists recognize the issue of fitness motivation for women because we have different needs and considerations. This isn't to say that men are better than women but they are differences. These differences need to be considered as women approach ways to maintain a positive state of mind. When you run into motivation issues, it may help to research what other women have done to keep their focus and motivation.
