What Is Self Confidence Or Self Esteem

What is self confidence? It can be called a personal assurance that one has in themselves and their abilities. It is a vital trait that an individual possess that can be seen in the way they talk, their body language and in actions they take. It deals with the way individuals see themselves when it comes to their power, judgment, etc.

The attitude of a person towards themselves determines to a certain extent how they perform, how happy and how healthy they are in life. Personality starts building up from childhood experiences. Majority of it is influenced by how parents and vital people in your life treat you.

The child looks into the eyes and faces of other people to find out whether he or she is attractive, safe, funny, intelligent and secure. The level of personal acceptance is largely influenced by how much a person feels they are accepted by the most important people in their lives. The attitude individuals have towards themselves is largely determined by the attitudes they think other people have towards them.

A person's confidence is raised when they believe others think highly of them. Personal acceptance is a base point on which esteem is built. There are ways in which a person can develop confidence.

Self Disclosure - This has to do with letting go of things that may have happened in the past by telling at least one person about it. It deals with letting go of unhappy memories by disclosing them to someone who will not judge or make you feel guilty about them. This is the base of psychotherapy, psychiatry and psychology.

Self Awareness: This is the next step to personality development. Sharing of personal thoughts about oneself helps in creating awareness of their emotions. Opinion given without criticism, aids other people in understanding themselves.

This is the base of personal awareness, with this they begin to realize that they are not bad after all. It creates an honest and objective opinion of who they are. This in turn leads to personal awareness.

Self Acceptance: When you are aware of whom you are, then you can understand and accept it. You take your highs and lows, weaknesses and strengths and accept them like that. This aids an understanding that no particular person is perfect.

So, what is self confidence? It is an overall opinion of personal worth whether positive or negative. It precipitates success or failure, development and progress. A positive thinking, environment and right people plays a great role in ascertaining how high or low ones esteem is.
