Ant Pest Control Tips

By Jenny Walker

Diligent ant pest control requires a number of things that you can do to help keep your property ant free. At times you can spend countless hours on housekeeping and still find the conga line of ants trying to find a food source that will satisfy them before they move on.

When it comes to treating your ant problem it helps you to know exact what you are treating. Pest ants have been around since the start of time and the facts on hand reveals that the ant can lift nearly one hundred times its own weight so do not be fooled from their size nothing will put them off the task that they are on.
Ants are natural foragers and I say this grudgingly they are the ultimate survivors. They can survive on small wood shavings, brittle wood, or barks of trees. They also look for food crumbs or tiny pieces of food to live on. The diminutive size of ants enables them to slip through even the tiniest cracks and openings in your homes and hide in the crevices where you don't think any living thing could survive.

1. For the untrained eye some people when they witness the carpenter ant inside a piece of wood think that they must be termites this is incorrect they are only foraging for food. These type of ants do not bite though.

2. Fire ants. It is easy to spot fire ants because of their color. These red-coloured ants bite and could cause quite a sting, leaving behind a burning sensation afterwards.

3. With bull ants these ants can deliver painful stings and are aggressive. Usually if you apply an ice pack or commercially available spray may be used to relieve the pain of the sting. If there is evidence of an allergic reaction, medical attention should be sought.

Try easy methods first on wiping down services and sweeping up crumbs off the floor. Ensure that you empty bins when you have completed this chore.

When it comes to ants in the home I try to steer clear of insecticides and usually use a cloth that has been dipped in a mild bleach or surface cleaner. I then target where the ants are gaining entry and seal this area immediately.
