Green Business Experts: What You Need to Know

By Mark Sheen

Do you participate in your community's annual Earth Day festivities? Every year, spotlights around the world focus on activities individuals, businesses and entire communities can participate in to make a positive impact on the environment. Reversing negative impacts we have caused the environment requires us all to act in every way possible, including hiring a green expert for your next home project. There are several ways to find the best green expert for what you need:

Green Associations - If you are not sure where to start, look at a list of environmentally friendly organizations or groups. There are several directories available online, including EarthAndEconomy.com, GlobalGreen.org and Webeocist at Momtastic.com.

Green Directories - There are also several online directories for different industries and markets. For example, try GreenExpertsDirectory.com, GoingGreenDirectory.org, GreenDirectoriesUSA.com and SolutionsForGreen.com.

Internet Search - The internet has many dubious pages but it can also be a wealth of information. Do a search on green organizations, businesses or companies for your specific home project. For example, a Google search for "green businesses Denver remodeling" brings up several valuable resources, such as several companies that are accredited with the Better Business Bureau and feature environmentally-friendly construction and remodeling, as well as the GreenProDirectory.com and a list of green home remodeling experts by state at GreenPeople.org.

Get References from Others - Most of us are friends with like-minded people, which mean that if you have an interest in environmentally friendly living, you probably know other people who feel the same way that you do. Ask around for references from other people who might know of green companies, businesses or individuals who can assist you with your home project.

Use Social Media - Use social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to find nearby green companies or businesses. Search for "green" businesses on these websites using your local city name or area to narrow down the search.

In addition, you may want to look at websites like Change.org and Care2.com to find the names of individuals and businesses, as well as other online groups, that you can search for on social media sites.
Check out some of the most popular environmentalists who have been posting on Twitter. This can lead you down the path to other green people and organizations that may be of assistance for your project.
Essentially, cast a wide net when you are working on finding green experts for your home project. Look online, ask around, search environmentally friendly blogs, articles and directories. Before long, you should be able to find qualified experts who can not only help you with your job but also do it in a truly green way.
