In its 3rd recall of a model powered by the fuel-efficient EcoBoost engine this summer, Ford will be calling back some 2012 Edge crossovers. The recall is over a defect that could lead to an engine fire. The statement was made Saturday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2012 Edge crossover SUVs with the 2-liter EcoBoost engine are being recalled in a recall announced on Sept 15. There are over 5,000 of the automobile being recalled.
Potential fuel leak
The concern is with a manufacturing problem that could possibly be a significant issue if anything were to happen. The fuel-line damper housings might be cracked, which might lead to a fuel leaks and possibly motor compartment fires due to the leaking fuel.
There have been 11 incidents where the 2012 Edge with EcoBoost has seen fuel leaking, according to Ford, though there have been no fires started due to the issue yet.
The car maker blamed a supplier in Michigan for providing the defective components.
Maybe the issue is the EcoBoost
This marks the 3rd recall of a Ford model equipped with an EcoBoost engine this summer alone. Could the automaker have moved too easily in taking its fuel-conserving technology to the assembly line?
The 2012 Escape Crossovers were recalled if they had a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine in July. There was a fuel line leak that could have led to a fire, and Ford told owners not to drive their cars and offered rentals until the issue might be fixed. There were 11,500 vehicles impacted by the recall.
Then there were the 6,100, 2013 Escape crossovers that were recalled earlier this month. There was a coolant leak that could cause fires in the cars that had the 1.6-liter EcoBoost motors on them.
The 2013 Escape, with its 2.0-liter EcoBoost, is the only one that has not yet been recalled.
Telling the owners
The current recall of the 2012 Edge officially begins on September 24. The affected Owners will be notified nationwide by Ford, from Spokane to Miami. Technicians at Ford dealerships will inspect the vehicles and replace the fuel-line pulse damper housings as needed, free of charge. Ford could be reached at 866-436-7332 to answer any further questions.
