A Job In UK Child Care Social Services

By Steven Harrison

People who work in UK child care social services help to make a difference in many children's lives. They work in liaison with hospitals and schools so that kids from different backgrounds all have a good standard of support in their homes and in their schools.

Social services could, for example, receive a tip off with regards to children that are at risk. This allegation would then be investigated, and action taken to ensure that the kids' best interests are a priority. For some children, it may mean being placed in a foster home.
However, this is not necessary in every case. In fact, most cases are dealt with by working closely with the children's parents or guardians, and giving support and information to them on issues around their upbringing and welfare needs that they may find challenging.

They offer lots of support to struggling single parents, who may be inadvertently neglecting their children's welfare. A support worker can help with parenting issues such as welfare and benefits advice, and on childcare if the parent finds a job.

They also help parents with disabled children, giving them advice on disability issues, welfare and any aids that they may need around the home to cater for the children's needs. On the other hand, they can also give parenting support to a disabled parent.

All sorts of children can be helped by this agency, they do not all come from underprivileged backgrounds. School teachers could notice that a middle class child is skipping school regularly. They would then get in touch with the agency, and ask for an investigation into this. The girl or boy may be the victim of bullying, and the school would then be informed back so they can take the appropriate action.

Working in UK child care social services is a very varied role. No two cases that are encountered are the same.
