Understanding How To Stop Procrastinating And Get Things Done

By Nick Chronos

Perhaps you are one of those people who can never seem to get things done. Procrastination is a common problem, and it can sometimes be difficult to correct. However, it is not impossible and there are steps you can take today, that will help. Here are some simple yet effective tips on how to stop procrastinating.

Most people procrastinate because they feel completely overwhelmed. They may have bills to take care of. Maybe the car is need of repairs. Things at home may be broken. When they think about all of these things it is simply too much, and they get nothing done. If you want to deal with procrastination, eliminate this feeling of being overwhelmed.

Most procrastinators promise to clean their home work space or desk, but it stays a mess. Now is the time to organize and clean the desk. Clear everything from it and throw away, file, or store everything that you can. If it is a huge job, ask for help or break it down into more than one day. This can remove that feeling of being overwhelmed.,

Before you go to sleep at night, plan out tomorrow. It need not be an intricate plan, but write all the things down that you wish to accomplish. Upon arising in the morning, decide which item you will work on first, and try your best to finish the task. Make sure it is something simple, so you can at least get one thing done.

When making a plan for tomorrow, do not begin any major projects. Many procrastinators are famous for starting something and then moving on to the next task, without finishing anything. This leaves a string of unfinished tasks and is almost certain to make you feel tired and overworked.

A good strategy for learning how to stop procrastinating is to get help. You might think that it is a good idea to ask someone with a similar problem. This way you can offer mutual support. However, this line of thinking can be a huge mistake. If you have someone helping you and they have the same problem, nothing may get done. It is like the blind leading the blind. This is why you should not choose someone who also procrastinates.

If you want someone to help you with your procrastination problem, choose an organized friend or family member. Let them know what you want to accomplish and ask to be held accountable for what you do. This helps insure success. A person who is well organized and efficient can teach you many important things about organizing your life. This is like on-the-job training.

Learning how to stop procrastinating involves removing that "overwhelmed" feeling from your mind. Begin by giving yourself a clean and organized desk or home work space. Make a list of things to do and concentrate on one task at a time. Ask an organized person to help you with this problem. Make sure that they hold you accountable for all your actions.
