Every Saint Patrick's is the same to me. People get dressed up in as many green sequins as they can manage, put on some crazy glasses or a hat, and congregate somewhere to get as drunk as they can without doing serious harm to their liver. I'be also noticed what an insane amount of people are wearing funny Irish t-shirts, and I think I've discovered how to read a person's personality just by the shirt they wear.
It seems to me that the majority of funny Irish t-shirts I see on Saint Patrick's Day are all really, really inappropriate. I don't really blame the people wearing them, because they've been taught what they know by media through the years. One thing is for certain: the people wearing cartoon, drunk leprechauns are not Irish...or even close to being Irish. They are there for drinks and for the party.
There are plenty of people at a Saint Patrick's Day celebration who are going to be wearing funny Irish t-shirts that are based around jokes concerning more intimate relations with the opposite sex. They may brush these shirts off as just jokes, but you can be assured that they have one goal and one goal only before the night is done. I'll leave the rest to your imagination.
If you're at a party or a bar on Saint Patrick's Day, then it goes without saying that you are there to drink some alcohol and have fun. The people who are wearing funny Irish t-shirts that talk about getting drunk seems almost redundant. The reality is that these are the people who drink two or three times a week. Saint Patrick's Day is just as good excuse as any to go out and get smashed.
The last set of funny Irish t-shirts are our truest fans of the Irish people. These folks wear shirts that have genuine Celtic words on them, or just celebrate Irish heritage in a very authentic manner. These people are your real Irish men and women. They are true to their roots and are out drinking on Saint Patrick's Day because that's how the Irish do it. It may be a stereotype, but that doesn't make it any less true.
