6 Ways of Getting Improved Digital Photographs

By Alice Becker

Here are a few tips to ensuring you get the best results with your digital photos.

1. Spot Your Regular Mistakes

Look at your photos. Do you see a pattern, such as blurred or out-of-focus digital photos? Can you find the subject in each photo or does it get lost either because it is so far away or because there are so many competing elements?

In order to fix a problem one must understand its cause. For fuzziness you may want to consider how you were holding the camera. A hand that moves while the shutter speed is slow often results in fuzzy images. The simplest way to sort this is to adjust the shutter speed on the camera and activate the image stabilization. You can also use a tripod stand to keep the camera in a fixed position.

Naturally if the fuzziness is part of the effect you wish to create then remain with the same shutter speed or even reduce it further. If you subjects are usually crowded out of the photos then be sure to take photos when closer or utilise a telephoto lens.

2. Compare your shots with ones you wish you had taken
To get worthy images to make comparisons against, do some research. You will want work that shows images that are similar as to what you have already snapped. Look for expert photos from the internet, books, magazines, and even on postcards.

Think about what you could have changed. The idea is not to copy their style, but to develop your own. But there is no harm in using some of their compositional tips to improve your digital photos.

3. Wait a Moment Before You Take That Shot

Once on site, take the time to walk around and visualize your shots. When you feel you have come up with some great shots, go ahead compose and shoot.

4. Trust your Instincts and Work Fast

Before you start, I know this is the opposite of what I told you in the above paragraph, but to capture some shots - those one-in-a-lifetime shots - you have to instinctively raise your camera and shoot.

As the goal is to become an expert photographer, you should use the program mode in your digital camera. This leaves you free to focus on composing your shots and taking them quickly.

The shots are only available for brief moments so you may only be able to capture a few at a time. Make use of the zoom lens to make quick adjustments to get the best results.

5. Arrange For an Additional Shoot

Once you have produced the photos, examine them and identify areas you would have made changes for the better. If the setting is nearby, arrange to visit again. If the appearance of the location changes with weather or seasons, try and make it back at a comparable time.

6. Have Your Work Assessed

Once you have done your own critique and produced the best work you could, it is time to get an outside opinion. A good way is by identifying a camera club in your area. You will definitely be able to find a few semi-professional photographers amongst them who can help you out. They will tell you how well you have performed and where you can improve. With their advice in mind, go back and perform another shoot to get better results.
