How To Handle Wrinkles, Storage And Stains

By Brad Wilson

As a fashionable man, you know your ties are essential accessories for your men's suits. They add colour, distinction, and a bit of style to even the most conservative of ensembles and can be paired with many different suits in your wardrobe.

While you sometimes take all of these benefits for granted, you notice immediately when certain things, like wrinkles and stains, interfere with your tie's perfect appearance. There are three things men often do in this situation; they run to a dry cleaner, keep the tie in a box where they won't be seen again or try fixing the problem.

Fixing the problem is always the most logical but it can be done. In case it become more difficult than you anticipated, we have compiled some tie care tips that will help make the process a lot easier.

Wrinkles, Storage, And Your Ties

Wrinkles can be a big problem for your ties, as many are not just random waves in your tie's fabric, but persistent creases that can break down the body of the fabric altogether. If you tie too tight the knot of the tie, then wrinkles will definitely occur. Let's discuss each of these problems in more detail.

Safe Keeping- Tie wrinkles often occur when men don't devote enough time to learning how to properly store their ties. If you really want to eliminate wrinkles, storing your ties in the right way depends on the fabric of the tie. Silk ties should be hung up, and gravity works wonders on small wrinkles on this beautiful fabric. On the other hand, if you have cotton, knit and wool ties, roll them up and keep them in a drawer. Don't hang any of these ties as you may end up causing even more damage than the wrinkles.

Unknotting- Unknotting the tie will help to keep them away from wrinkles. While you may be tempted to yank it off, it will sure cost you more in time and money on the long run. To take the time off, just reverse the steps you took to put it on.

Knotting- Unlike with your shoes, you don't have to worry about your tie coming undone at some point in the day. This means it doesn't have to be a noose around your neck. Lighten up when you're knotting it and prevent deep creases where your knots are located.

When Your Tie Is Stained

Despite wrinkles, stains are the next problem that men face with their ties.

There are professional cleaners that will help you look at the stain on your tie. If you'd rather use the DIY approach, there are a few things you should consider.

Blot don't scrub.

It is necessary you don't submerge your tie in water.

If you want to use a cleaning agent, test it first.

Don't use spot treat solutions on your ties. This way, you can damage the fabric's integrity and colour brilliance.

That being said, here are a few DIY solutions for that stained tie.

Salt can absorb a lot. If you mistakenly spill something greasy on your tie, sprinkle water on that spot and leave it to dry. This will help to get rid of the excesses.

Try a splash of lemon, undiluted, on your ties to remove almost any stain you could come across. This works almost all the time.

Can you still remember those periods when your mom use seltzer water to remove stains from your cloth? She may have used it more than once because it works every time. With a glass of seltzer water and some clean cloth, you can lift the stain off immediately.
