Be The Person You Want To Be Through Personal Development

By Steve Brian

Self help is about getting in touch with who you are and taking the necessary measures to live a happier life. Too many people go through life accepting what happens to them, and eventually give up on happiness. If you need assistance in your fight for happiness, you have come to the right place.

Personal development starts with a positive attitude. Having a positive attitude will affect every part of each day of your life. Everyone has their down days and troubles, but take a minute to step back, breathe, regroup, and tackle whatever situation with a calm mind and fresh outlook.

If you have a lot of negative self talk, internally telling yourself that you are stupid, ugly or unsuccessful, a great way to counter act these thoughts is grounding yourself in the here and now. While trying to help yourself with personal development, asking yourself simple questions such as "Where am I?" and "What am I doing?" will help the negative self talk go away.

Envision success. If you can see yourself succeeding within a reasonable range, you are more apt to succeed. If you can imagine yourself performing a task well, then imagine yourself celebrating your success, you will have less performance anxiety and it positive thinking will help you reach your goals.

To keep your eyes on your horizon and your dreams, make sure you see them everyday. Get a bunch of magazines no one wants anymore and just clip out any photos of anything that looks nice that you want in life at some point. Make a collage on a sheet of poster or cork board and put it up in your bedroom. Make sure you at least glance at it for a minute each morning. That is long enough for those images to become dominant thoughts during your day and you will wind up with those things.

Make time every single day to do a little something for yourself. This is quite important in personal development. Even if it is only fifteen minutes that you can dedicate to yourself, be sure to take it instead of giving yourself to everyone else in your life each and every day.

If you are experiencing depression, you should turn to people you trust. It's important to remember, your family and friends will be there for you and want to help you. You can also join a support group so you can talk to others that are having the same problems as you.

Picture yourself succeeding. It's no secret that the key to success is being able to visualize yourself achieving your goals. By allowing yourself a taste of what success will feel like, you are recharging your motivation and giving yourself the drive to continue on towards reaching whatever goal you set out for.

Instead of focusing on how you perceive your body may look to others, focus instead on how your body feels to you. After all, you are more qualified than anyone else to determine how your body is or is not performing. Boost your self-esteem by looking for healthy activities and hobbies that satisfy both requirements of looking and feeling great.

Make a list of things that are dragging you down or just driving you crazy. Then divide this list into things you can and can not control. Realize that there is little that you can do with the things that are out of your control and try to let go of that. Instead put your concentration on the things that you can control.

Any time you set yourself a new personal goal, whether weight loss or a job promotion be sure not to announce it to everyone. Of course, you want to tell a few people for accountability, but save telling everyone for when you have actually fulfilled the goal. This way, you won't receive the recognition before you have accomplished something.

Anxiety and dread often result from an individual's inability (or refusal) to accept that not everything in life is certain; it simply is impossible to know the full details of something, including whether or not it will even occur. Eliminate this anxiety by coming to terms with the very real nature of uncertainty. Focusing all of your mental resources on a worrisome potential consequence will not determine whether or not the event will even occur.

It may sound silly, but smiling more is a wonderful way of making the world around you a brighter place. Smiling is the way we show the world around us how we feel inside, since nobody has an emotion-reading meter on their head! Smiling shows others you're happy to be around them, so show your pearly whites to make a wonderful, lasting impression.

Not as bad as you thought, correct? Like any other subject, the world of personal development is vast and has a wealth of information available on it. Sometimes, you just need a little hint as to where to begin with it so that you can begin. Hopefully, you have received just that from the tips above.
