We've seen the fitness center commercial poking fun at the bodybuilders who tend to frequent gyms. The one where the muscular gym rat can only repeat the phrase "I lift things up and put them down." Often, people shy away from weight training because they don't understand its value. If you've ever found yourself wondering "What are kettlebells, barbells, and hand weights going to do for my workout routine?" It's imperative to separate fact from fiction and take the myths and misunderstandings out of the equation in kettlebell exercises.

1. Muscle weighs more than fat: This statement has been used to comfort those who manage to put on a pound or two while working out or whose weight remains the same. The honest truth is that a pound of muscle weighs exactly the same as a pound of fat - a pound (just like eight pounds of feathers weighs as much as an eight pound bowling ball). Don't shy away from weight lifting because you're scared about packing on the pounds. If you're not dropping pounds but swapping pounds of fat with pounds of muscle, your body is still leaner and healthier. 2. Lifting weights can be torture: People complain that working out can be mundane. They believe that the recurrent act of simply lifting a weight can prevent a hardcore workout hound from getting their workout for the day in.
